When you’re looking for a quick patio makeover, outdoor rugs are a fabulous choice. I bought my first outdoor rug about eight years ago. I love area rugs, so the entire concept of bringing the same look outdoors was mind blowing. Who doesn’t enjoy a fabulous outdoor living space? It’s safe to assume with the amount of cable shows devoted to outdoor living that having our living spaces extend into the outdoors is important. Outdoor rugs add so much to patios, porches or decks. I mean without a well planned outdoor rug, the outdoor furniture appears anchorless and floating!
It’s safe to assume by the number of shows devoted to outdoor living, that our living spaces now extend outdoors. Unlike television, however, we lack the labor force to pull off a quick patio makeover in just two days. My solution: Outdoor rugs.
Outdoor rugs bring character to outdoor living and they are a workhorse. I frequently recommend an indoor/outdoor rug for casual dining areas. The rugs are typically far more economical than a wool rug, and they can be hosed off.
Quick Patio Update: Blue Outdoor Rugs
This blue Diamond Maze geometric rug from Pottery Barn is one of my favorites. It’s not only a flat weave but also reversible. That means twice the wear! I must say, this one would look amazing indoors or out!
When outdoor rugs were first on the scene they were typically a solid color and in the brown color family. Completely neutral and that was probably a great way of introducing people to the concept. What we see now are vibrant patterns and colors.
This year I’m noticing an emphasis on blue. Perhaps because it is such a relaxing color. Target is always on trend with their home decor and certainly didn’t miss the mark with this year’s selection helping us with quick patio makeovers. I love this blue and cream Ikat rug so much, I bought it for our screened in porch!
Blue is a hot trend right now but a warm red will always remain classic. This is another outdoor rug from Target and I think they hit the nail on the head with this one. Think how amazing this rug would look with neutral outdoor furniture! In my mind, I’m envisioning cream color seats with either rattan or teak furniture. It would look beautiful!
Dash and Albert rugs have a great reputation. They are known for their stylish patterns and colors and durability. This is certainly a modern version of a fabulous neutral rug in a taupe and white color scheme. Dash and Albert have their own website with products available for purchase but websites such as Wayfair also offer the same outdoor rugs.
Maybe neutral isn’t the look you want to achieve. Make a big bold statement with this outdoor area rug from Wayfair! The huge print is beautiful and truthfully, depending on the furniture arrangement probably would not look overwhelming. I personally love the mix of colors and pattern in this rug!
Not nearly as bold as the rug above but this outdoor area rug certainly isn’t the shy girl wanting to avoid attention. She just goes about seeking attention in a different way! Still modern with her color combo but a bit more refined with her classic pattern. Wayfair does it again with this outdoor rug!
I love how this blue rug adds a bit of color but it pretty understated. Especially compared with some of the rug shown above! The pattern is pretty darn transitional and could easily work with a number of different styles. I found this lovely rug at Home Depot and must say that I was pleasantly surprised at the number of options they have available. Just one more reason to love Home Depot!
There are lots of citrus colors to be found this summer! Just look at the throw pillows at your local Target, Home Goods, Marshalls or World Market. And why not beautiful citrus? It is summertime after all! This outdoor area rug from Target is beautiful and classic. I simply don’t think a person could go wrong with this lovely!
Safavieh brand outdoor rugs are a leader in their field. It’s easy to see why. I can envision this rug in a relaxing outdoor room. It’s almost begging people to relax with the faded blue and cream tones. I can also visualize this rug in a casual dining area or kids space. Classic!
Another rug by Safavieh where you can’t go wrong! The Moroccan trellis print is hugely popular right now but also timeless. My guess is an outdoor rug with this type of pattern will wear out before the style does. One of my favorite parts of this look is the number of colors and size of patterns available. If you want to give an outdoor rug a whirl, this would be a great start!
